Thin solid films are strongly attractive to various fields due to the improvements and modifications in their properties comparing to the bulk. Consequently, the applications of those coatings become broadened and useful. Practical uses of thin film does not restrict to only simple wear-protections as TiN-coated food processor's blades or recording media, such as harddisk drive (HDD), but also be able to be utilized as outstanding sensing devices and so on.
Our laboratory belongs to Graduate school of Science and Engineering, Department of Metallurgy and Ceramics Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology. In the laboratory, we are especially interested in fabrication of nano-hetero structured thin films in which prepared by various deposition methods in order to examine and investigate their magnetic, electrical, optical and mechanical properties in relation to the micro/nano and crystal structures which allows us to understand and further implement their superior functionalities.
